The First National Bank of Bellville

Bellville is the county seat of Austin County, about 64 miles northwest of Houston, west on IH 10 to Sealy, then NW on TX 36.


The First National Bank of Bellville is the leftmost two story building, left of the
BANK SALOON.

Today, the block looks like this.

The First National Bank of Bellville was chartered number 4241 on April 23, 1889. It still exists.

The bank printed 1882 Brown Backs and Date Backs, 1902 Date Backs and Plain Backs, and 1929 Types 1 & 2.

The census records thirty-seven examples: one 1882 Brown Back, one 1902 Date Back, nine 1902 Plain Backs, twenty-one 1929 Type 1's, and five 1929 Type 2's.
The Brown Back and one 1902 Plain Back are in the Philpott-Moody Collection.


This 1902 Plain Back sold in January, 2018, at the FUN Auction for
$360.
