Benjamin
The First National Bank of Benjamin
Benjamin is the
county seat of Knox County, about 80 miles west of Wichita Falls
on US277 & US82, almost halfway to Lubbock.

There is not much left of Benjamin. It is as desolate as Dickens, 63 miles to the west.
If you can pick out the Post Office,
the square opposite (to the upper right) is the site of the Knox
County court house.
The streets immediately surrounding the four sides of the court
house are paved, as is the extension of US 82 running from the
lower left to the upper right past the court house (Hays St as
it passes through Benjamin), and the extension of TX Hwy 6 running
from upper left to lower right past the court house (Hinton St
as it passes through Benjamin).
All other streets in Benjamin are unpaved.
On the left corner, on the block
opposite the Court House from the Post Office, there is a structure
that has been identified as the vault of the First National
Bank of Benjamin.
The First National Bank of Benjamin
was opened in 1905 as charter 7669. It ceased operation on April
25, 1929.

It printed 1902 Red Seals and 1902 Plain Backs in $10 & $20
denominations.
The census records one 1902 $10 Plain Back, with no notice of
a sale.
The Philpott-Moody has no specimen. The note is just out there
somewhere.
