A great Texas rarity that is only the second note to surface from this obscure north central Texas bank that was the sole issuer in this hamlet of just 500 people. Opening in 1901, the year telephone service arrived in Gordon, this charter survived the note-issuing era while maintaining a minimal circulation of $6,250. Until this evening, only one piece had been reported from here - a $20 Plain Back that has never been publicly offered. Representing a bank and location that was missing from the Philpott, Everson, and Moody collections, this pleasing mid-grade Brown Back presents a great opportunity for today's generation of collectors of the Lone Star State. It is an evenly circulated and well margined specimen that exhibits unmolested wear along with nice color and signatures. Any estimate here is simply a guess, but this PMG Very Fine 20 Texas trophy note should realize in the range ... Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000."This note is again offered at the Long Beach Expo US Currency, Sept. 11-13, 2024, with this set of descriptive notes.

Gordon, TX - $10 1929 Ty. 1 The First NB Ch. # 5759 PMG Very Fine 20.
This northcentral Texas community is one of the rarest of all Texas towns, having been represented for years by only one piece, a $20 Plain Back that had never been offered for public sale. Then, earlier this year, a $20 Brown Back came "out of the weeds" and was sold in our Central States auction for $13,200. Now, lightening has struck again with the unveiling of the first small size to surface from this small bank that only maintained a minuscule circulation of $6,250. It is an evenly circulated and nicely margined piece with nary a problem save honest wear. Any estimate here is just a guess, but if rarity and desirability are any guide, bidding is highly likely to reach... Estimate: $5,000 - $7,000."
