100 N. Cuyler St.
The First National Bank of Pampa
was chartered number 9142 on October 8, 1907, and issued currency
until April 15, 1935, almost to the end of the National Bank
period.
It's history
intertwines with other local banks.
The First National Bank of Pampa
printed 1902 Date Backs and Plain Backs, plus 1929 Type 1's.
The census records just three notes:
one 1902 Plain Back, in the Philpott-Moody Collection, and two
1929 Type 1's.
This 1929 Type 1 sold in January,
2001, for $5,520.

"A moderately worn specimen
with solid paper for the grade and a pleasing overall appearance.
There are no significant defects, although a tiny edge split
is noticed near the bottom left corner and a tiny blue ink mark
is seen near the center of the reverse. Only this single
example [These notes were written in 2001, and since then, two
others are acknowledged, but HA should have known about the note
in the Philpott-Moody] is known to have survived from this bank in
the Texas panhandle, and since this was the only issuing bank
in town, the opportunity to own a note from Pampa may not come
around again in the lifetime of many collectors. This bank has
a tiny issue of just 64 sheets of $20 small size notes, and it
is a wonder that any have survived. Organized in 1907, this bank
was liquidated in April, 1935.
