"The first bank in Pilot Point {Pilot Point Bank) opened on January 1, 1884. By 1887 the bank had capital of $25,000. By 1892 the capital had increased to $60,000. The census records one 1882 Brown Back, one 1902 Date Back, two 1902 Plain Backs, and five 1929 Type 1's.

"The Pilot Point National Bank ... is located on the northeast outside corner of the square"

This location is needed because there is a second bank

Farmers and Merchants Bank

that is located on the northwest corner.

It overshadows this bank architecturally and in historical importance.
