The First National Bank of Port Neches

Port Neches is in Jefferson County: east of Houston on IH10 to Beaumont, then 13+ miles southeast on TX 347 to Port Neches.

The First National Bank of Port Neches opened as charter 11799 in July, 1920, and existed until 1996.

The bank printed 1902 Plain Backs and 1929 notes, Types 1 & 2.

The census lists fourteen known notes: five 1902 Plain Backs, three 1929 Type 1's, and six Type 2's. They are all $5 notes. One Extremely Fine Plain Back is in the Philpott-Moody Collection.

This Plain Back sold at a Heritage auction, September, 2005, for $4,312.

Although two large size notes are known from this bank, both have been closely held for years, one in the Philpott/Moody holdings and the other in a long term collection. Irish only had a small size note from here, and neither Everson nor Ivy had any note from here. This rare bank had a miniscule $710 in large size outstanding in 1935, and the chances of another note showing up are slim. This one is a solid Very Good, a touch soiled but with no problems save for a couple of tiny paper pulls. Expect to see bidding reach or exceed... "
