Rotan
The First National Bank of Rotan
Rotan is in Fisher
County, 41 miles west from Abilene on IH 20 to Sweetwater, then
25 miles north on TX 70 (five miles past Roby).

The First National Bank of Rotan
was chartered number 8693 and still exists.
This is the current First National
Bank of Rotan building at the intersection of Garfield and Meade.
But it is not the original.
Four banks were chartered in Rotan
in 1907.

The Rotan National Bank and the
Farmers and Merchants National Bank were not issuers of currency.
They and the Cowboy
State Bank no longer exist and seem to have no trace.
The First National Bank of Rotan
printed 1902 Red Seals, Date backs, and Plain Backs and then
1929 notes, Types 1 & 2.
There are eleven notes in the census: three 1902 Date Backs. five
Plain Backs, and three 1929 Type 1's. All are $10 notes. One
Plain Back is in the Philpott-Moody Collection.
This Plain Back note sold in June, 2010 for $891:
