Sonora is the county seat of Sutton County, just over 171 miles northwest of San Antonio on IH 10.
Thirty-five miles further will get you to Ozona.
Twenty-one miles north on US 277will get you to Eldorado.

The First Natiomal Bank of Sonora was chartered in 1900 and printed currency to the end of the National Bank period. It issued 1882 Brown Backs, 1882 Plain Backs, 1902 Red Seals and Plain Backs, and 1929 notes, Types 1 and 2. In each series, it printed $5, $10, and $20 denominations.

The census reports forty notes from this bank: two 1882 Date Backs, one 1882 Value Back, nine 1902 Plain Backs, and sixteen 1929 Type 1's, and twelve 1929 Type 2's.

Three of the Plain Backs are in the Philpott-Moody Collection.
This 1929 Type 2 sold in a 2010 Heritage Auction for $299.
