Tulia
First National Bank of Tulia
Tulia is the county
seat of Swisher County, about 50 miles south of Amarillo on IH
27.
Although this building seems to
have been remodeled on the ground floor,
the upper floor retains an earlier shape. Note
the inscription
on the corner.
There is a
hisstorical
medallion
that confirms this to be the First National Bank of Tulia.
The First National Bank of Tulia
was chartered number 6298 and printed currency until the end
of the National Bank period in 1935.
The census records twenty-two notes: one 1902 Red Seal, four
1902 Date backs, five 1902 Plain Backs, ten 1929 Type 1's. and
two Type 2's.
This Plain Back sold in a September,
2007 Heritage auction for $1,437.
