An incredible new discovery which may be the single rarest large size Texas note we have had to offer during the past few years. It comes from the sole issuer in this Texas Panhandle community and it is truly a miracle of survival. The First National opened in 1904 and issued just a small quantity of $50s and $100 before giving up its circulation privilege shortly after 1914. As a result, the bank had a mere outstanding amount in 1935 of $150. Amazingly, a note from that small amount has survived, and we are pleased to offer to the collecting fraternity for the first time tonight. It represents a bank and town that has eluded all of the major Texas collectors over the years including Carter, Philpott, Everson, Ivy, and many others. Fortunately, it is a pleasing mid-grade $50 with nice color and an attractive overall appearance. It does have an inverted "Farmers & Merchants State Bank Shamrock, Texas" rubber bank stamping on the back and a few pinholes. They are mere trifles when considering the rarity and desirability of this Texas trophy note."
